Water & Earth System Science

The competence cluster “Water - Earth System Science” (WESS) is located at the University of Tübingen. The cluster was financed (from 2009 to 2014) by the Ministry for Science, Research and Arts Baden-Württemberg and the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research.

WESS successfully acquired

--> the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center CAMPOS (“Catchments as Reactors: Metabolism of Pollutants on the Landscape Scale”), as well as

--> the DFG-funded Research Training Group "Integrated Hydrosystem Modelling"

WESS was focussing on the water cycle and associated solute fluxes at the catchment scale as a function of changes in climate, land use, and water usage. Of particular relevance is the fate of pollutants which are introduced by diffuse sources (atmospheric deposition, agricultural application, infiltration and continuous emission from urban areas).
